Sobesky Academy is a K-12 Alternative Education Campus within Jefferson County Public Schools. Sobesky Academy is part of the Special Education Continuum of Services, serving around 100 students with special education and mental health needs. Many students exhibit challenging behaviors because of their past educational experiences, identified disability(ies), and mental health needs. All students are on Individual Education Programs (IEP) and 83% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch… . As an alternative education campus in Jeffco, Sobesky receives students through referral and attempts to support their growth so they can return to neighborhood schools. Due to this, student turnover at the school can be greater than 50 percent. The mission of Sobesky Academy is to ''provide an individualized educational and therapeutic environment which supports social-emotional awareness, inspires personal growth, and builds on students' strengths in order to empower them for success.'' Sobesky Academy?s values are accountability, belonging, growth, integrity, and structure. Sobesky?s staff is comprised of licensed special education and non-special education teachers, licensed school staff, school social workers, related service providers, paraeducators, and administration. The multi-disciplinary team partners to promote student growth by creating an environment which is highly structured, predictable, consistent, and supportive. Services provided focus on accessing education and developing the skills needed to transition to a least restrictive school setting.
