About Boulder Valley Re 2 (0480)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Boulder Valley Re 2

2024-2025

Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) serves a diverse population of about 28,000 students in 56 schools situated in several communities spread over 500 square miles. For more information, visit http://www.bvsd.org/about. Unified improvement plan (UIP) development occurs in the context of BVSD?s on-going strategic planning efforts, and in the aftermath of a pandemic in which available resources were prioritized around meeting immediate safety and student needs in a predominantly remote learning … environment, as well as fires in which approximately one thousand residences were lost. This year?s UIP documents work related to discipline, academic supports, acceleration and instructional practice. These improvements are intended to address long standing patterns of inequitable opportunity, growth and achievement due to multiple factors, including institutional and systemic racism, the effects of poverty, and the challenges that Emerging Bilinguals and students with disabilities face that have always been present and that were exacerbated by pressures of remote learning. In collaborating with our District Accountability Committee, along with our Latino Parent Advisory Council and our Parents of Color Council, we together think it is crucial to address institutional and systemic racism as a root cause in order to advance equitable outcomes for all students as focusing only on improvements to instruction and curriculum would be insufficient. In conjunction with the other factors listed above, race is often a predictor of access to success due to the presence of institutional and systemic racism in our educational system. The educational system has the responsibility to provide a culturally competent learning environment and for the adults in the school buildings to be accountable to meeting the needs of and providing access that allows the diverse student body of BVSD to thrive.
