The Southwest Colorado eSchool (SWCeS) is a public multi-district online school-of-choice option for students through the San Juan BOCES located in Southwest Colorado. The school districts within the SJBOCES service area include Archuleta County School District, Bayfield School District, Dolores School District, and Dolores County School District, Durango School District, Ignacio School District, Mancos School District, Montezuma County School District, and the Silverton School District. eS has student members who reside in all area districts and accepts students in grades 6 through 12. The majority of our students will enroll with us as a transition period due to a variety of reasons including moving, lack of challenge in brick and mortar school, length of time at school, employment, location change, behavior struggles, and/or need a change of pace. Students are enrolled in five distinct ways: 1. Full-time students take all of their courses from SWCeS and work independently towards an eSchool diploma. 2. Part-time students who take 2 courses from SWCeS. 3. Supplemental students take one or two courses with SWCeS and satisfy full-time requirements at their home district school. 4. Students with a Hybrid schedule, are full-time at the eSchool and take one or two classes at their local district school. 5. Home school students who participate in shared schooling and take two to three courses but are not working toward an eSchool diploma. Part of the vision of SWCeS is to expand learning opportunities for member school district students and provide a rich course offering for all students. To this end, the school continues to outsource much of the curriculum and teachers to Colorado Digital Learning Solutions (CDLS). This partnership allows the school to develop, deliver, and instruct the curriculum utilizing Colorado Certified Teachers specializing in their subject areas. Additionally, Seniors are invited to participate in concurrent and dual enrollment coursework and graduate from high school with college credit. These students must meet entrance requirements including GPA and specific prerequisite requirements. We are considered a small population school utilizing 8 surrounding districts. With the amount of distance between each of our students and a high number of parents opting out of testing the data is not a great assessment of our performance as a school.
