De Beque School District 49JT is located on Interstate 70 on the western slope of Colorado. The community is heavily dependent on oil and gas exploration and is prone to boom-bust cycles of the industry, which creates high mobility in the student population. As a small rural school district with three larger neighboring districts, the district often faces difficulty with recruiting and retaining faculty, staff, and administrators. ing families with significant historical longevity in the area. The district has historically served between 130-180 students, PK-12th grades. In 2022, the BOE developed a strategic plan focused on student success and achievement, learning, and safety and security. All stakeholders are working to make data-based decisions regarding curriculum alignment and curricular needs, and creating a variety of pathways and instructional opportunities for our students. Administration is focused on prioritizing instruction, maximizing professional development, completing effective and timely teacher evaluations and observations, and development of the Mentor Program for new teachers. All students are provided with Chromebooks for 1:1 technology implementation which exposes students to multiple learning platforms and modalities. When developing the UIP, the district worked with various stakeholder groups to gather input, including staff, DAC, and the BOE.
