About Jefferson Academy Elementary (4402)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Jefferson Academy Elementary

2025-2026

Jefferson Academy (JA) Elementary was founded in 1994 as one of the first charter schools in Colorado. The school implements the Core Knowledge curriculum, and is designated as ''a friend of Core Knowledge'' by the Core Knowledge Foundation. JA also addresses the Colorado Academic Standards. Enrollment in PreK-sixth grade was 758 (2024-2025) school year; current enrollment is 781 (2025-2026). The PreK program conducts 2 half day sessions; 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon with a student to… staff ration of 1:10. There is a teacher and an EA in each class. Class size for 5 full-day Kindergarten classes is 22. There are four sections of 1st-6th grade with approximately 26-28 students. An Educational Assistant (EA) is provided to support students and teachers in classrooms and in Specials. Specials programming includes art, band (4-6), Core Knowledge Connections, general music, physical education, technology, STEM, and Social Emotional Learning. After school electives include Art Club, Computer technology and robotics, Drama Club, Intramural Sports (basketball, soccer and volleyball), Earth club, Student Council and Science Club. Parents and community members completed over 10,000 volunteer hours last year. JA is located in suburban Broomfield, Colorado. The charter is authorized by Jefferson County Public Schools. JA was awarded the John Irwin Award in the fall of 2018. Brendon Feddema was hired as the new principal of JA Elementary for the 22-23 school year. With an additional assistant principal added, the leadership team focused on maintaining effective systems and structures developed in previous years to support academic growth and achievement. During the 2024-25 school year, a committee of teachers helped to determine the focus for the UIP. The committee analysed trend data from both MAP, DiBels, and CMAS to inform their goals. This committee will guide the goals setting and the UIP development for the current school year. The Administrative Leadership team put a focus on PLC work throughout the school. Grade level teams work is driven by the UIP and serves to inform the direction for future UIP's as well as the Charter School Boards' 3 year strategic plan.
