About Durango 9-R (1520)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Durango 9-R

2025-2026

Durango School District is in the southwest corner of Colorado in La Plata County, serving approximately 4300 students PK-12. Our student population is 66.3% White, 22.1% Hispanic, 4.8% American Indian or Alaska Native, 4.8% Two or More Races, 0.9% Asian, and 0.9% Black or African American. 15% of students are served through an Individualized Education Plan, 5.1% are Multi-lingual learners, and 38% are Economically Disadvantaged. Our school district is comprised of seven elementary schools, two … middle schools, two high schools, one Shared School, and one elementary charter school. Durango uses Title IA dollars to support elementary schools who meet or exceed the districtwide poverty percentage. Six of our seven elementary schools and our online school receive Title IA dollars to support students in reading/language arts, and math. The district UIP is based on strategic planning and ongoing collaborative efforts between our district curriculum, instruction, and assessment department and the student support services department as well as all schools. These departments review our annual performance targets, local and state assessment data, and district strategic plan as part of the planning process. Specifically, the teams collect and analyze local, state, and national assessment data, conduct root cause analyses, brainstorm strategies, and create action plans to solve the root issues of any gap trends noticed. A draft plan is then shared with the District Accountability Committee as well as other groups as we engage in strategic planning. These committees have an opportunity to understand the draft strategic plan and the rationale for the plan, while also being given an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. Principals and teacher leadership team members also had a chance to review, understand, and provide feedback on the development of the plan. Both School and District Accountability Committees engage in ongoing formative review of all plans. These committees are comprised of teachers, families, and school leaders.
