About West End RE-2 (2190)

A MESSAGE FROM:

West End RE-2

2025-2026

Located in southwestern Colorado, West End Public School District RE-2 (WEPS) covers approximately 1,000 square miles. The small rural towns of Nucla, Naturita, Bedrock and Paradox are served by the district. The K-12 enrollment for the 2025-26 SY is 232 students. Since experiencing a small growth in enrollment after Covid and the closure of the Paradox charter school, our enrollment numbers seem to stay fairly stable between 255-265 students each year. Until our rural economy can develop a stro… ng comeback in its economic development, we expect to see these numbers remain steady for the foreseeable future. The current superintendent, Clint Wytulka, has provided stability to the district during his seven-year stint, which supports the ongoing improvement process. For the last three years, Mr. Wytulka worked tirelessly on obtaining and implementing a Colorado Best Grant to build a brand-new K-12 school for our community. In January of 2024, all 232 students and 60 staff packed up the old schools and moved into the new school building. This mid-year move created unintended consequences as well as new and exciting energy for the entire student body and staff. We will address some of the unintended consequences of a mid-year move in the following pages of this UIP. For the 2025-26 school year, the district serves a student population with 46 % FRL count, 14 % minority; including a mix of Native American, Black, and Hispanic students. 19 % of our students had IEPs , 3% were Gifted and less than 1% were considered migrant students. The district consists of three separate schools housed in one new school building: an Elementary (PreK-5th), Middle (6th - 8th), and High School (9th-12th). This building also houses an infant and toddler daycare program that both staff and community use for childcare. There is a dedicated PreK-5th grade principal, 6th-12th grade Principal and the superintendent. The school district employs about 65 staff including teachers, a special education director, one registered nurse, one technology director, one librarian, special education paraprofessionals and classified staff.
