About Gunnison Watershed RE1J (1360)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Gunnison Watershed RE1J

2025-2026

On the west slope of Colorado with most folks living above 7,500 feet and a 4-6 hour drive from Denver, Gunnison Watershed School District includes the communities of Gunnison, Crested Butte, and Marble and hosts six schools with a total of over 2,000 students. We are a mission-driven district, working to inspire growth and success for all students through learning rooted in strong relationships. Our geographic area is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. Tourism, outdoo… r industry, construction, healthcare, and education drive the economy in our beautiful valley which includes vast acreage dedicated to cattle ranching, the Crested Butte Mountain Resort ski area, multiple rivers, and about 85% public lands. Our October Count data from fall of 2024 show that about 65% of the district student population attends school in Gunnison and 33% in Crested Butte, with 2% in Marble. Gunnison schools together have a student population that is about 38% people of color, 43% who qualify for free and reduced lunch, and 22% multilingual learners while Crested Butte's student population is about 9% people of color, 16% who qualify for free and reduced lunch, and 1% multilingual learners. Our multilingual learner population has more than doubled in the last five years, with district student counts increasing from 147 to 303 students. Gunnison Watershed School District ensures the vitality of our communities for generations to come by helping young people discover their unique gifts and preparing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make a difference at home and around the world. We believe that students thrive when they are connected to something bigger than themselves. That?s why we create learning experiences that spark curiosity, helping students discover who they are and how to make a difference in the world around them. And as they excel in academics, athletics, and the arts, students find the confidence to pursue any opportunity in life.
