About Ranch View Middle School (7245)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Ranch View Middle School

2025-2026

Description Ranch View Middle School is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB/MYP) school that focuses on inquiry based/personalized learning and authentic and challenging learning opportunities. RVMS is composed of grades 7 and 8. We follow a teaming model. For the 2015-2016 school year, there were approximately 840 students enrolled at Ranch View. There was an increase in enrollment from 793 students for the 20-21 school year and 822 students for 22-23. We serve students of a… ll populations with the highest populations being our white students and students of two or more races, with 5.6 % of our population qualifying for Free/Reduced lunch. We have had an increase in students on ALPS, currently there are 187 students on Advanced Learning Plans. RVMS serves 111 students on Individual Education Plans. Leadership and Staff:  This is our principal's 5th year at RVMS and hoping to maintain stability since over the past 10 years, there have been 4 principals. In 2021, administration changed with a new assistant principal. The TLCC survey results from spring 2022 showed growth overall in all categories. The TLCC favorability report was 86% up from 80% in 2020. Professional development, specifically personalized alignment to teacher's needs (78% overall) and Managing student conduct, specifically rules are enforced in a consistent manner (68%) show need for continued focus for improvement. In addition, honoring time for staff to complete professional duties was in need.   Curriculum and Instructional Models and Assessments: Ranch View's IB/MYP program was evaluated in October 2018 which is a process that occurs once every five years and we successfully retained certification.  To align with ThunderRIdge High School, IB has granted us an extension for reevaluation in 2024. As we delve into improving and celebrating the growth in our students, we are also examining the manner in which we pay attention to both IB inquiry based learning and standards based instruction. In the previous year, we may have put more emphasis into inquiry based and personalized learning without developing a standards based foundation. Due to low participation traditionally in state assessments, RVMS has also focused on examining iReady data and in class assessment data to progress monitor growth. Student Course Taking Requirement: As part of staffing and budget analysis, we monitor the courses that are available for students to take. In reviewing the student course taking report provided by CDE, our team found that no disparities exist. However, our school places a high priority on ensuring that specific population groups' needs are met. For example, students on IEPs may receive additional support based on need. Strategies for students with disabilities will be incorporated into our school's major improvement strategies and action planning. We have created systems and structures in our schedule to support students in math and literacy such as READ 180, System 44, Dimensions of Literacy and Math, and an enrichment period. School Culture and Climate: TLCC data from 2022 showed a significant increase for climate and culture, shared leadership, student discipline, and professional development. RVMS administration used our data from 2022 to set new goals such as personalizing professional development, increasing communication and data around student behavior and honoring staffs' time. One of these decisions included the desire for a discipline committee to be formed so therefore that is what happened. Staff also shared suggestions for decision making such as involving leadership groups, having those groups share what they are working on with the rest of the staff, and surveying the whole staff on an ongoing basis to progress monitor how things are going from a culture and climate standpoint. The master schedule is the largest example of shared leadership, Team Leaders and the Building Leadership Teams were tasked with developing options for the RVMS master schedule. For the 23-24 school year we continue to implement the master schedule that staff voted on in 2019/20; this has built-in common planning time for each department and each team. This allows for our PLC leader to run department time and ESD to have staff gather and learn by department.  Block schedule was implemented two days a week to help with remediation within classrooms.
