About Trailblazer Elementary School (8897)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Trailblazer Elementary School

2024-2025

Trailblazer Elementary School is in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and is part of the Douglas County School District. There are currently 297 students aged kindergarten through sixth grade. The population at Trailblazer is diverse. About 19.7% of students are identified as special education and there are two center-based programs housed in the school. One program serves students with significant physical and cognitive disabilities (SSN) and the other program serves students with severe emotional and… mental health disabilities (AN). About 6.3% of students are identified as as English Language Learners. Approximately 6.3% of students are identified as Gifted and Talented. Trailblazer's mission/vision is, Creating Sturdy Human Beings in a Rapidly Changing World. In a world that is continuously changing, we want to raise children to be successful and thrive in any environment. We mold our students to be resilient and to persevere through challenging academic endeavors, challenging social/emotional situations and any other obstacles that come their way. Our school participates in the PBIS model to support positive behaviors. Each month our staff and students practice a different character trait, and we engage the entire school in projects and activities to help everyone understand the true meaning of the characteristics. For example, we focused on generosity in November 2023. Our students and staff brought in food for a food drive, and books to share with students in another school district who aren't as fortunate. Trailblazer offers several opportunities for our parent community to get involved. Parent volunteers are always welcome, and encouraged to be part of our school community. Our PTO and School Advisory Committee meet every month, and have done a wonderful job planning activities and events to make it feel like we are a family. Parents keep our community engaged through restaurant nights, monthly community activities, and our huge fundraising event, the Fun Run. Our PTO creates many community opportunities and supports our students and staff in any way they can. Recently they have purchased new books for our library, new projectors, digital curriculum, and individualized items for all teachers. Our SAC meets to review our budget, talk about curriculum, and review safety practices. It is a great opportunity for us to come together as a group and problem solve.
