About Mrachek Middle School (6160)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Mrachek Middle School

2025-2026

Mission, Vision, and Purpose Mission and vision are that of APS: We are powering the potential of our students so that every student shapes a successful future. At Mrachek, our purpose is to ensure that every student gains the academic and social-emotional knowledge and skills to be informed participants in our society and to be successful now in whatever future goals they choose. Most importantly, students will have the education they need in order to choose their own future rather than having … it chosen for them. Demographics: Mrachek Middle School has 805 students enrolled as of August 2025 in grades 6-8. Demographics are as follows: Hispanic/Latinx 53.7%; American Indian/Alaskan Native .4%; Asian 6.3%; Black or African American 16.9%; Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander 1.9%; White 12.6%. The student body is 50.1% male and 49.9% female. Students with an IEP comprise 15.2% of our population and 1.6% of our students are identified as GT. ELL students make up 51.2% of our student body and are disaggregated as follows: NEP 16.34%; LEP 17.5%; FEP 13.44%; and PHLOTE & Fell 3.94%. Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch comprise 75.2% of the student body. Two center-based programs, 1 providing programming for students with autism and one providing programming for students with Significant Support Needs are part of our school. Programming: Mrachek Middle School is a comprehensive middle school offering a range of elective courses. Students end their day with a Connection/Advisory class and then have 4 core classes and 2 elective courses. Core classes include math, science/STEM, social studies, and literacy. Elective course options include music appreciation, band, choir, orchestra, visual arts, theatre arts, Life &Careers, PE, Youth on Record and Cross-Cultural Literacy. Students with IEPs and students with CLDE requirements attend courses aligned with those needs in addition to their core classes. Personnel: Mrachek Middle School has 70+ licensed staff members, including 2 assistant principals, 1 climate and culture coordinator, 3 deans, 2 student engagement advocates, 4 counselors, 2 social workers, and a nurse. There are currently 8 teachers licensed as Special Education teachers, 3 licensed as CLDE teachers, and the remaining teachers hold licenses required for their assigned content area. The school has a Building Council and an Instructional Leadership Team. The Building Council consists of 8 voting members, who were elected by staff within the school. The Building Council meets monthly. The Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) is made up of any teacher who chooses to participate as well as instructional coaches and administrators. The ILT is focused on the implementation of the 90-day plan and providing PD in support of equitable instruction; specifically, on the systematic implementation of data-driven instructional processes. Partnerships: Mrachek Middle School currently is partnered with Youth on Record as part of the Young Men/Women of Color Impact Initiative in APS. Additionally, We continue to utilize resources from PEBC (Public Education and Business Coalition) in support of instructional design and embedding student thinking into daily learning. We also have a strong partnership with the The New Teacher Project (TNTP) where we engage in bi-weekly coaching cycles. UIP process: CMAS data from 24-25 school year showed signifianct growth as a school community. A School Accountability Committee (SAC) was formed during the 24-25 school year and comprised of 4 parents, a Mrachek teacher, a counselor, a family liaison and an administrator. We received frequent feedback on our 90-Day Plan to set the tone for the following 25-26 school year. As a middle school network, all middle schools in APS will be cellphone-free using YONDR pouches to better support the mental health of students and increase student engagement in the classroom.
