A MESSAGE FROM:
Tollgate Elementary School of Expeditionary Learning
2025-2026
Tollgate Elementary School of Expeditionary Learning is in the Aurora Public School District. Enrollment at Tollgate for the 2025-2026 School Year is expected to remain stable, as the 24/25 school year maintained around 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We serve a diverse population of students and families, approximately 68% of our students are considered multilingual learners and 78% qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. Tollgate Elementary is a growing community school serving …
a diverse population of learners. We are considered a Title 1 school, grades K-5 with about 600 students. We believe in the EL Education model and developing the 3 dimensions of student achievement through: Mastery of Knowledge and Skills, High Quality Student Work, and Habits of Character. Tollgate practices an active, integrated, hands-on, and minds-on approach to learning guided by the EL Education?s Core Practices. Tollgate provides a disciplined and rigorous learning environment combining high-level academic content and real-world, integrated projects with a school culture built upon the Tollgate habits of character: Respect, Responsibility, Collaboration and Craftsmanship. The motto developed by Outward Bound founder, Kurt Hahn, ''We are crew, not passengers,'' speaks to Tollgate?s core belief that staff and students must take responsibility for their learning, as well as take responsibility for caring for one another. Tollgate offers music, visual arts, physical education, and a STEM lab for all students. OUR VISION: At Tollgate we come together to explore , question , and create in order to do better work and be better people than we ever thought possible! OUR MISSION: Through Expeditionary Learning, Tollgate Elementary will align high quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the development of character and leadership that transfers to student learning and transforms our school into a purposeful place of learning that unites our students, staff, and families. Tollgate has a Governing Board as part of our leadership design. The Governing Board fulfills the School Accountability Committee (SAC) responsibilities as well as leading and monitoring our Innovation Plan with Aurora Public Schools. The Governing Board is composed of Principal, 4 Teachers, 3 Parents, 1 Classified staff member, and 1 Community rep. This fall we reviewed both state and school data to provide feedback on our UIP and 90 day plan goals. The Governing Board will monitor and provide ongoing feedback two more times throughout the school year. This year, we are working in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) to hold a community forum for all members of our Tollgate community. We will present our current performance, current actions, and provide opportunities to gather input from our stakeholders.
