McAuliffe Elementary School sits at the eastern corner of Colorado Springs School District 11. It serves a population of students that is evenly split between the immediate neighborhood and students bussed from Peterson Space Force Base. For the last few years, McAuliffe has produced good student growth and lagging achievement with the SPF rating of Improvement. As of the 23-24 school year, McAuliffe serves as the STEM Pathway elementary for the east side of D11. This has seen shifts in culture,…
curriculum, and elements of the physical spaces of the building. The hands on and collaborative approach to learning is something the staff values and are excited to continue to grow and develop. Supporting student and staff mental health has been important, including the participation in the Colorado K-5 Social Emotional Health Grant over the last 3 years. This has led to additional staffing, the ability to provide basic needs for students and staff, regularly scheduled family nights hosted by the school, improved learning environments, and more. A key part of the school's identity comes from the large military population that we serve. We were notably recognized as a Purple Star school for the programs in place to support these students. This includes the DOD funded Military Family Life Counselor that is housed full time in our building, the student council run Anchored 4 Life program, and events around the month of the military child in April.
