Thomas MacLaren School is an award-winning Kindergarten through twelfth-grade charter public school located on the east side of Colorado Springs. Thomas MacLaren School opened its doors in the fall of 2009. From our humble beginnings renting space in a local church for 77 sixth- through ninth-grade students, we are now located on our own campus that accommodates the 2018 expansion of our school from 6-12 to K-12. Our student body numbers approximately 950 students. Over the years, MacLaren has r… acked up impressive awards (School of Distinction, John Irwin Award of Excellence, High School Growth Award) and test scores (Class of 2017 state record-breaking ACT composite average of 29.8) while daily undertaking the task of developing young men and women who are fully human and fully awake to the world. All MacLaren students, grades K-12, receive an excellent liberal-arts education in which the humanities, the fine arts, mathematics, and the sciences are valued and given equal weight. And all MacLaren students study a common, sequenced, content-rich curriculum, with no tracking. Grades are de-emphasized in favor of meaningful, personal feedback and evaluation. In this environment, students begin to pursue learning for its own sake and become the agents of their own education.
