About Community Prep Charter School (1885)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Community Prep Charter School

2025-2026

Community Prep School (CPS) is a public charter and alternative education campus (AEC) serving students in the high-risk category of dropping out, who are ages 14-21 in grades 9-12. Community Prep School was founded in 1995 as a partnership between the city of Colorado Springs and School District Eleven. Since its inception, CPS has filled a much-needed niche in the educational landscape of Colorado Springs. While exceptionally diverse, CPS? students share a significant common characteristic?a h… istory of profound and chronic failure to succeed in traditional academic settings. In the main, CPS students have previously moved in a negative direction through systems of interventions designed to catch them and keep them succeeding in school. It is important to understand that the profile of a typical CPS student is beyond at risk, they have ''bottomed out'' of the system and are seeking to re-start their education. Community Prep?s key role within District 11 and the region as a whole is to serve as a safety net for students in the greatest danger of cutting off their futures by permanently leaving school. CPS? status as a last chance safety net is illuminated by multiple characteristics. Over 90% of CPS students qualify as at-risk students as defined by Colorado Statute 22-7-604.5. The average CPS student has 2 of 15 risk factors used to determine AEC status. CPS exists to help students beat the odds. CPS has a multi-faceted, continuously improving program that facilitates student growth in both academic and non-academic areas.
