Murphy Creek is a P-8 school located in the southeast quadrant of the Aurora Public Schools. Our population is made up of 63% of students of color (24% Latino, 7% Asian, 17% Black or African American, 42% White, 10% of two or more races), and 36% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and 40% are ELL students. Our veteran staff provides extracurricular activities such as theater, Lego club, and sports to create opportunities to engage students in our JET culture. Being the hub of the co… mmunity, we hold multiple events like Winterfest and Veterans Day inviting families to join our school. PBiS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support and was created to help promote a positive culture within our schools. Murphy Creek has been lucky to have this program in our school since 2005. At Murphy Creek, we encourage our students to use JETS Behavior, which includes: Join In, Excel, Thoughtful Actions, and Self-Respect. Throughout the years, our PBIS program has grown and changed, allowing us to have many incredible ways to recognize our students for their positive behavior. Students are rewarded weekly for living the tenets of JETS. Our mission at Murphy Creek K-8 School ensures the ''highest achievement for all'' through the following beliefs: Continuous learning from kindergarten through eighth grade Long-term relationships with students and their families Integration of arts, technology, and academics Continuous learning from kindergarten through eighth grade leads to increased student achievement by: Providing connections between elementary and middle school learning Allowing students to progress at individual rates Helping students of all ages to work and learn together Sharing instructional practices between elementary and secondary teachers Eliminating the transition between elementary and middle school Long-term relationships with students and their families lead to increased student achievement by: Providing consistent student/adult relationships and role models Extending a nurturing learning environment through the middle school years Preparing students for a successful high school experience Increasing family involvement through the middle school years Integration of arts, technology, and academics leads to increased student achievement by: Making academic content accessible to all learners Allowing students to make connections in order to deepen understandings Stimulating higher-level thinking Developing collaborative work skills Using technology as an instructional tool Increasing student motivation
