About Twain Elementary School (5576)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Twain Elementary School

2025-2026

Mark Twain is truly a family. This family consists of staff members, students, families, and community members. When we work together, our goals for student achievement and success will become a reality. The partnership between home and school should be open, positive and supportive. Families play an active role in their child?s education through participation in school activities such as PTA, classroom volunteerism, attendance at programs and presentations, assistance with homework, and ongoing… communication with the staff. Mark Twain, built in 1962, is a Title 1 school located in Colorado Springs with 89.93% Free and Reduced lunch program and an enrollment of 309 students. Twain houses two Universal Preschool programs. One is offered by The Colorado Springs School District 11 and the other is offered by the Community Partnership for Child Development-Head Start. In addition, we have an English Language Learner program. We offer many school activities such as Band/Orchestra, PE, Music, Art, SEL (Social emotional learning) and STEAM. Some of our after-school activities include: Sports Challenge, Art club, Kindness Club, Book Club, Board game club, Chess club among others (clubs change from 1st to 2nd semester). We house Leading Edge the before and after school care program as well as ITSCO or In the School Counseling to provide students with mental health care. We also provide dental as well as vision care to all students in need. We have a community closet and pantry as well as a partnership with Care and Share for weekend family nutritional support. The Unified Improvement Plan is a collaborative process that includes voices from building staff, building leadership, district leadership and community. This team comes together every year to identify Major Improvement strategies that will allow Mark Twain to improve their instructional and community engagement practices. Data is collected from multiple sources including state and district assessments as well as parent, student and teacher surveys. Mark Twain has in 1 year moved from a state identified turnaround school to a school on an improvement plan. This is an increase in scores and it means that Twain has improved by 2 levels on the state school performance framework. We welcome questions and suggestions at any time. Together we will make a difference!
