Chipeta Elementary was established in 1987. Chipeta is a beautiful school that sits at the base of the mountains near the Garden of the Gods in D11 in Colorado Springs. It is a school that focuses on academic rigor and student belonging. One thing that makes Chipeta unique is that it is a Responsive Classroom school. There are a wide range of extracurricular offerings at Chipeta and offerings during the school day such as PE, Art, Music, Band and Orchestra. In the 25-26 school year, Chipeta will…
be focusing on increasing student agency and engagement as well as implementing a new literacy curriculum (CKLA). It is a priority at Chipeta that each grade level has the opportunity to participate in at least one Peak Experience during the school year. Chipeta is currently one of the largest elementary schools in District 11 with a student population of 440 students in grades preschool through fifth grade. Chipeta has an Instructional Leadership Team comprised of administrators and diverse representation of certified staff which monitors the achievement and growth of students throughout the year. This team monitors MIS1. Chipeta also has a Building Leadership Team comprised of a diverse representation of certified staff and administration. The work of this team is to monitor the climate and culture at Chipeta through MIS2. Chipeta's School Accountability Council comprised of administrators, certified staff and community stakeholders review and monitors the UIP work. The UIP team has evaluated the data from STAR, DIBELS, CMAS and local assessments to determine areas of strength, weakness, and growth for the school. The team also used information from our grade level PLCs where the certified staff take part in data discussions regarding CMAS, STAR, and DIBELS data to determine trends, root causes, and strategies to develop the school?s performance target goals. The Principal, Assistant Principal and Teaching/Learning Coach are also members of these PLC teams. The data from the last School Performance Frameworks completed in 2024-2025 showed Chipeta as a Performance school scoring 91.8%. Although we did have low participation, we exceeded achievement expectations and met expectations in growth. Chipeta students exceeded expectations on CMAS Science, ELA and Math! Our sub-population of students who experience a need for free/reduced lunches met expectations in all. We exceeded expectations for growth in ELA, but continued to meet expectations for math growth. This continues to be a trend at Chipeta and is a data point that helped determine this year's goals. Historically Chipeta scores in the 80th percentiles for SPF, but last year had a dip at 76.8%. The current 25-26 school year, Chipeta's SPF rating fell to 78.3% due to a score of "Approaching expectations" in the area of math growth. Chipeta is on an upward trend for achievement in ELA and Math, but continues to focus on math growth. There has been a downward trend in math growth that is addressed in this current UIP. Although we approached expectations in math growth, we met all other growth expectations and exceeded all academic expectations. In fact, Chipeta was the highest achieving school in ELA and Math in the Pikes Peak Region. Chipeta continues to monitor it's students who are in need of a READ plan throughout the year. This year many students were taken off of their READ plans based on data demonstrating competence in foundational reading scores. Chipeta did score the additional READ point for the 24-25 school year on the SPF.
