Our attendance rates are below the target of 95% and negatively affect student achievement and growth. The staff at Rice regularly analyze our educational practices including the use of standards based formative assessments, instructional delivery, use of learning time, and quantity of rigorous learning opportunities. In addition, Rice focuses on developing the whole child. We are a Leader in Me school and through our focus on student leadership, we are purposeful about creating a learning environment that fosters belonging and student ownership of learning. The examination of our progress on the above practices, along with DIBELS 8 Reading, MAPs Reading and Math, and CMAS results, have informed the writing of this UIP. All licensed teachers were part of the initial discussions, followed by collaboration with the school leadership teams and the School Accountability Committee. The final version was approved by staff and the members of SAC prior to submission.
