LPCS is a pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade LPS charter school.  It welcomed its first students 26 years ago in the fall of 1998 and has operated continuously since then.  LPCS currently has an enrollment of 498 students. LPCS employs a number of distinctive attributes that make it a unique and valued part of the LPS system.  These attributes include:  precision placement and grouping of students by ability in the foundational subjects of English Language Arts and math;  block scheduling the… se foundational subjects at the K-4 level (that is, all students in all grades have each of these subjects at the same time) to allow for grouping by ability with minimal disruption;  teaching that emphasizes a blend of research-based methodologies, including  direct instruction, project-based learning, phenomenology, cooperative learning, and constructivist approaches;  pre-k programming rated Level 5 through Colorado Shines, the state?s quality rating and improvement system; Orton Gillingham trained teachers and instruction provided to all pre-k through third-grade students; fifth through eighth-grade instruction provided by teachers who specialize in their content area; junior high grade programming which provides smaller classes and offers expanded to intervention level instructions; K- 4th grade adherence to science and social studies state standards and supported by the Core Knowledge sequence;  high behavioral expectations combined with a positive approach to discipline;  school uniforms;   an administration with a historical 26 years of service at LPCS and an experienced staff with low rates of staff turnover;  a parental and staff community that consistently reports high levels of satisfaction in anonymous surveys.
