About Horizon High School (4108)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Horizon High School

2025-2026

Horizon High School is a large comprehensive high school in the northeast quadrant of the Adams 12 Five Star School District and serves approximately 2,000 students. The school?s mission is ?Reaching our potential today -- Meeting the challenges of tomorrow. Every student every day? is accomplished each day by presenting students with learning approaches, aligned to formative practices, ultimately leading students to their ownership of learning. Horizon is comprised of 9th - 12th graders, offeri… ng general education classes for all learners, CP and AP level courses, IEP and ELD courses, CTE (in-building and at the district's CTE campuses) industry certifications, concurrent enrollment through Front Range Community College and CU-Boulder, as well as SOAR classes for our school's special program. Horizon High School was founded on the core values of collaboration, integration, inclusion, and communication, and these values are evident as you walk the halls of our school ? students working in collaboration with their teachers and peers, as their teachers give the highest quality of instruction in all content areas. Teachers and staff members take time to connect with our students and with each other because they know that caring connections are crucial to the learning environment. Horizon?s teacher development is through job-embedded professional collaboration with an emphasis on collective responsibility. Teachers are required to meet with one common course team each week with colleagues to study, plan, implement, and adjust lesson plans based on student data/feedback and the content standards. This collaborative approach along with the guidance of an Instructional Leadership Team (six teacher leaders and two instructional coaches) who facilitate professional learning and assist in continuous improvement processes, is what drives our instructional focus forward. Over the past four years, Horizon has aligned our building-wide focus/goals to the District?s improvement strategies and theory of action, by specifically focusing on inclusive learning environments for all students as we evaluate systems to support students? social-emotional well-being, professional learning focused on increasing student growth and achievement through the implementation of effective instruction (particularly formative practices) and promotion of school culture/climate, and expanded learning about intentional adult collaboration. Our Instructional Leadership team has also been instrumental in helping staff to progress monitor the effectiveness of their instruction and implementation of our schoolwide goals by leading the instructional work in formative practices. Certified educators at HHS align their professional growth goals to our continued school-wide focus on inclusive classrooms, and our Instructional Leaders support educators on their other individual professional growth goals throughout the year with professional development for formative practices and other instructional strategies. We know and understand that our Unified Improvement plan must be a living working document that is part of our daily practice (utilized in collaborative planning, teacher instruction/assessment as well as in our professional development plan).
