About Centennial Elementary School (1388)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Centennial Elementary School

2025-2026

Centennial Elementary is a small community school in Broomfield, Colorado in the northern section of the Adams 12 Five Star School District. The school was built in 1976, and many of our families have attended our school for over two generations. Our boundaries are within a one-mile radius, and the majority of our population comes from the neighborhood Front Range mobile home park. We currently serve students from PreK to fifth grade. Our enrollment has been steadily declining over the last six … years, and so we currently serve 269 students in grades K-5 and 27 in PreK. This number translates to two rounds at each grade. We are a Title 1 school, and as of last December, 76.11% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. We do have a transient student population, and currently 27 students are chronically absent. Our student population is quite diverse. 74.41% of our students are students of color, with an increasing number of new students coming directly from Mexico and other Central American countries. Additionally, 37% of our students are multilingual learners in grades K-5. We have quite a large number of students who have high needs. We have 64 students on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in grades K-5, which is 23.7% of our population. We also house an Affective Needs program, which serves students with severe emotional disabilities. The percentage of students on IEPs has stayed at around 20% for the last few years. Lastly, last school year we introduced a new mission and vision that was created with input from all of our stakeholders. The mission and vision is ground in our values of accountability, belonging, courage, learning, and collaboration. This school year we introduced belief statements that were written by staff members on our School Wellness Team, with feedback from staff. We are using our belief statements to commit to actions that will support us in living our values and achieve our mission and vision. Our goal is to build on established trusting relationships and existing structures to deepen our understanding on how to create independent learners. Literacy is continuing to be our primary focus, but we are slowly introducing new learning that is aligned to the science of math. Five years ago, we implemented a new State Approved Literacy resource to teach phonics/word study and reading. Last, year we built on our instructional knowledge by implementing the writing component, with an emphasis on using the integrated language approach for our multilingual learners. This year, our goal is to lift language in both reading and writing and support students in seeing the connections across the literacy block.
