About Shadow Ridge Middle School (6342)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Shadow Ridge Middle School

2025-2026

Shadow Ridge Middle School is a comprehensive middle school serving students in grades six through eight that live within the boundaries of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district. Current enrollment is 592 students, and the school sits on the boundary line of two school districts. The school celebrated its 20th Anniversary during the 2022-2023 school year. A new administrative team came in at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, replacing a team that had been in place for many years. The stu… dent population at Shadow Ridge is diverse, representing many racial and ethnic groups as well as special student populations. The student population is approximately 53% Hispanic or Latino, 33% White, 6% Asian, 4% who identify as two or more races, 1.6% African American, .03% American Indian or Alaska Native; additionally 47.6% identify as female, and 52.4% as male. Students receiving Special Education services represent 19.6%, English Language Learners are 9% of the student population. 5.6% identify as Gifted and Talented and 6.6% are students with 504 plans. The measurement of students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch is 10.6% free lunch, 10.6% are eligible for reduced lunch and 57.4% of students are eligible free or reduced lunch. For the 2023-2024 school year, SRMS was placed on Priority Improvement and had to make a Priority Improvement Plan to move out and up to an Improvement Plan. For the 2024-2025 school year, SRMS moved from Priority Improvement to Improvement. Unfortunately, we have slipped back to Priority Improvement for the 2025-2026 school year. While frustrating that we have collected reversed course in terms of growth and achievement, this is a much more optimistic place to be than two years ago. We have implemented a great deal of systems and structures over the last three years to build accountability around grade level rigor and instruction. We have mined the work of others (Hattie, The New Teacher Project, Relay GSE, etc) and implemented many research based protocols and methodologies that serve to increase rigor, grade level work that is standards based and has built in systems of accountability. Upon reflection, the missing piece seems to be the lack of consistency in our school wide implementation of these systems and structures.
