SCHOOL SETTING Located in Greeley, Colorado, Franklin Middle School is one of four comprehensive middle schools in Weld County School District 6 and has been educating students at its current location since 1950. In regards to the school community we serve, Franklin has approximately 385 students in grades 6-8. The demographic of our student body is as follows: we are approximately 78% Hispanic,12% White, and 19% other minorities. Currently, our student enrollment is 46% female, 53% male with 22… % currently receiving support as second language learners. We have 21% of our students receiving special education services and 5% who have been identified as being gifted and talented. When compared to the past three years, our current overall enrollment has declined as a result of the increase in K-8 school options close to Franklin and a district school boundary adjustment. The staffing plan at Franklin Middle School that is supported through district and Title One allocation, includes 14 core instructors, five elective teachers, four special education instructors, and one English development teacher. We currently have one instructional coach, two counselors, one part-time school social worker, one part-time school psychologist, one interventionist, in addition to one principal and one assistant principal. Our school curriculum is through Gradient Learning and include the EL Curriculum for English, OpenSciEd for science, Illustrative Math, and Investigating History for Social Studies. As a component of this curriculum, students are assigned to a homeroom class that serves as a mentoring community as well as an intervention and/or enrichment to improve achievement and growth in math and English. We also offer a variety of electives that include choir, band, orchestra, AVID, art, physical education/health, and a newly designed smartlab that offers a variety of digital content to include video production, 3D printing, and computer coding.
