Emerald Elementary School is a neighborhood school in Broomfield, Colorado as part of the Boulder Valley School District. The school was founded in 1958 and was the first school in Broomfield. As part of a 2014 BVSD bond, the school was demolished and rebuilt in 2017. The new building has flexible spaces that allow all teachers to share students across the grade levels so that the team of teachers can organize themselves in a way that best meets the needs of all of students. s 48% of families qualifying for Federal Meal Assistance and is served by Title One in BVSD. Furthermore, Emerald serves the emerging bilingual students from another BVSD school in their English Language Development Program. The ELD program at Emerald is a Co-Taught/Co-Planned model during the writing block. The writing/ELD block is co-taught four days per week and the ELD teachers and general education teachers co-plan once per week. Emerald has been implementing this model for eight years. The school is currently implementing a new structured, systematic literacy program called Into Reading this year. Additionally, the school has a strong focus on equity and has a strong Equity Committee that includes teachers, principal, paraeducators, and parents. The school is very diverse, a source of pride for the school, and currently has over 17 languages represented. Other highlights of the school are extremely low staff turnover, positive Teaching and Learning Conditions in Colorado data, and Performance status on the School Performance Framework.
