Henderson Elementary is a small commuter school located in Henderson, CO and serves a variety of students. Currently the demographics of Henderson include 64.2% of students who qualify for FRL. We also serve a community that is made up of 71.6% of students who belong to a minority group. Our students that are identified as English learners make up 35.3% of our population. In addition Henderson also has 16.6% of our students who qualify for services with an IEP and our Gifted Students make up 0.6…
% students. Henderson is also home to the affective needs program for SD27J. This school year is the third year after a change in leadership to Henderson with a new principal, assistant principal and instructional coach. Henderson values feedback and voices from our staff and families as well as community members. Henderson still relies heavily on their instructional leadership team and has welcomed new staff members. Our focus has still been on the creation of our UIP and is the driving force behind implementation. This team agreed that the goal of ILT is to use systematic procedures to drive the UIP by taking action, evaluating and adapting. They also believed that members should intentionally model, support and facilitate growth of our school community. Along with the ILT, Henderson also has a PTO and a CAT team that work to make sure that voices are heard when considering matters impacting the school and students. At Henderson we believe that involving families in UIP development is important for the success of our school and students. This is an area that we continue to focus by providing opportunities to engage families and other stakeholders in decision making processes.
