About Soda Creek Elementary School (8208)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Soda Creek Elementary School

2022-2023

Soda Creek Elementary School recently adopted a new Literacy curriculum for grades K-3, Into Reading. The change in Reading curriculum was a result of a curricular review by the school district and its elementary schools. Furthermore, it was supported by the fact we have seen stagnant reading growth for a number of years, and that in order to support our new district-wide strategic plan, we needed to think differently about our reading instruction. The district, knowing this, applied for the Ear… ly Literacy Grant to help identify areas of weakness and goals for improvement. Based on multiple data points (old curriculum, stagnant test results, inconsistent practices), it was decided that it was time for a change with hopes/desires of seeing increases in student achievement and growth. This adoption of the new curriculum began at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. This adoption was supported by our new School's Cubed Literacy Consultant as well as the new K-3rd Literacy Coach. For READ Act purposes, Soda Creek Elementary School will be working on aligning its reading practices with the new 2020 Colorado Academic Standards for Reading, Writing, and Communicating as well as across all grade levels and classrooms. Over time, classroom teachers have had increased access to effective instructional practices in Reading. Effective instructional practices in reading are supported by a growing body of research evidence showing that when such practices are implemented with fidelity and diligence, student reading achievement is reliably increased and incidences of reading failure are substantially reduced. Our students with significant reading deficiencies (SRD) are more likely to achieve their READ Act goal(s) and close the reading gap between themselves and typically performing peers.
