About Soda Creek Elementary School (8208)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Soda Creek Elementary School

2024-2025

Soda Creek Elementary School is a neighborhood school in Steamboat Springs with approximately 380 students. Of those students, 3.0% of our population are identified as Gifted Learners, 13% have an IEP, 24% of the population receives EL services, and 29% of the population identify as Minority. We do not have accurate numbers of Free and Reduced Lunch due to the state providing lunch.  Soda Creek Elementary School is continually evaluating and implementing our programs for improvement. We engage s… taff and parents in our efforts. We have a School Accountability Committee composed of parents and staff who provide guidance in programming, performance, budgeting, parent engagement, and safety. We have a School Leadership Committee with staff representatives from each team to analyze data, look at focus areas, and plan for staff development. Soda Creek Elementary has been a John Irwin Blue Ribbon School in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022 and a Governor?s Distinguished Improvement Award winner for 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022. We are fortunate in Steamboat Springs to have strong community support for our schools. Our teachers are committed and dedicated to serving all of our students.  Our achievement performance on the state assessments is consistently above the state averages. Our overall growth is strong. However, we are constantly looking for ways to address our growth gaps. Specifically, we see a need in our English Learners and students with disabilities subgroups in both ELA and Math. Although we saw growth in many of our subcategories, ELA growth for our students with disabilities is not where we would like it.  Three years ago, we adopted a new curriculum. We also applied for and were awarded the Early Literacy Grant. We adopted Into Reading as our curriculum and began implementation at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Our teams are working with our school Literacy Coach to ensure the curriculum is being taught with fidelity. Our Literacy Consultant continues to support staff to ensure that our teachers systematically cover all five components of reading and that foundational skills are being met.
