School Overview Orchard Mesa Middle school is a 6th through 8th grade middle school that has a diverse population. The school?s enrollment has historically fluctuated between 450-480 students at any given time. However, in the 2023-24 school year the D51 highly gifted and talented Challenge Program was integrated into OMMS. This has resulted in the school enrollment increasing to 560 to 580 students annual enrollment. For the 2025-26 school year there are approximately 198 6th graders, 171 7th g… raders and 190 8th graders. Approximately 48% of our students are female while 52% are male. Roughly 23% of our population are Latino/ Hispanic, 71% are White, and 6% are spread across the categories of multiple races, Native American, and Asian. We have a free and reduced rate of approximately 62% for our neighborhood population and 59% when also including the Challenge Highly Gifted and Talented Program. ELL students make up less than 3% of our population. We have a high percentage of students serviced by special education (16%). Student mobility rates have consistently run between 15 and 20% which is high compared to other middle schools in our state. Daily absenteeism rates fluctuate between 10% and 13% daily with 35-40% of students being identified as Chronically absent with an attendance rate that is below 90%. The campus employs 40 certified employees and 20 classified employees. Each content department has participated in the development of this plan and has identified strengths and weaknesses based on school-wide data. We have also worked collaboratively to determine goals and strategies that we feel are essential to move our school forward academically, behaviorally and socially. Parent input via our School Accountability Committee (SAC) is a valuable component in driving our decision making. Information from staff and parents has been brought forward to the Leadership Teams for further discussion and development of our Unified Improvement Plan as well as identifying root causes and aligned strategies.
