Monterey Elementary school is a kindergarten through 5th grade neighborhood school. Built in 1969, Monterey serves many generations of families as well as families new to the area from the many new affordable housing options built within the attendance area. Monterey serves approximately 250 students, houses three preschool classrooms run by a community organization and an affective needs special education classroom for identified students within Harrison School District Two. an ethnically diverse student body with 82% of students identifying as ethnicities other than white. 60% of the students at Monterey identify as hispanic. There are two CLDE teachers at Monterey servicing the multi-lingual students. 20% of the students at Monterey are receiving CLDE support. Of those 20%, 65% of the students are Non-English Proficient (NEP) and 35% of the students are Limited English proficient students. Approximately 81% of the student body is eligible for free or reduced lunch. Monterey has been a Performance school according to the state School Performance Rating system for the last two years. In 2017, Monterey was a Turnaround school and in 2022 Monterey was officially off of the state monitoring list.
