About South Elementary School (8060)

A MESSAGE FROM:

South Elementary School

2025-2026

South Elementary is a Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade school with approximately 338 kindergarten-5th grade students and approximately 28 additional preschool students. Approximately 50% of our students are Culturally and Linguistically diverse and are receiving explicit English Language Development instruction to support their language acquisition. The demographic make-up of the students at South Elementary is as follows: 80.6% of students are eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch, 49.2% of stu… dents are multilingual learners, 87.4% are minority students, 15.1% of students have learning disabilities, less than 1% of students have been identified as gifted and talented, and less than 1% are migrant students.  South Elementary believes in the potential within each child and member of the school community. We dedicate ourselves to building positive relationships, creating a safe learning environment, and providing a challenging academic path so that every student lives a story of success. We recognize the need to address social emotional needs through trusting relationships and our SEL curriculum. Most importantly, we believe that it is our responsibility to help students become future ready so that they can choose and plan for any future they can imagine. Title I School Wide Plan Requirements: Parent and Stakeholder Involvement Student data is collected and analyzed throughout the school year toward their growth. During our fall Parent-Teacher Conferences each parent is given a copy of our Title I Compact. For the 2025-26 school year the compacts will be distributed directly to families at our October parent-teacher conferences. In order to gather data around the reception and understanding of the Title I Compact, teachers will hold in-person conversations about the additional funding and resources provided to our students and staff through the Title I grant and gather parent feedback and input.      Our parent advisory group meets monthly to discuss the focus of the school, special events, and ways in which the parent group can support student learning. Our parent group at South Elementary has equal opportunity to discuss and impact decisions around vision and purpose at South Elementary; this is a direct tie to our school Unified Improvement Plan. 27J Schools seeks community and parent involvement in the district accountability team in which each school is represented by a staff member and a parent from the school. This group makes recommendations to the school to help guide the UIP process and ensure it is aligned with the district and school board global ends. This year South Elementary will present our building UIP at our virtual District Accountability Committee meeting on Wednesday, 10/15/25. Staff members are also key stakeholders in the development of the UIP. The process begins in the spring of each school year where growth toward the current UIP is reviewed and collaboration toward the following UIP for the following school year begins. The comprehensive certified staff worked on writing the UIP under the leadership of the Instructional Leadership Team. On a weekly basis each grade level meets with the building instructional coach to analyze data and develop their own clarity on grade level performance using the 27J curricular frameworks and learning blueprints, which align instruction within each data cycle. The common assessments scheduled at the end of each data cycle then provide evidence of the learning of students and growth toward grade level performance. Leadership team observations and feedback are provided through the lens of grade level performance indicators indicated by instructional practice of teachers. Each grade level team looks at multiple sources of data in order to analyze trends, gaps, and celebrations in the data.
