The mission of the Niwot Elementary School Community is to provide each student with a well-balanced and successful learning experience that promotes a lifelong enjoyment of learning, positive self-esteem, and an appreciation of respect and acceptance for all individuals. Our vision is we are a loving family, existing as an integral part of a generous community. We share an ethic of academic excellence which fosters a safe, respectful, collaborative, and fun environment. Our school is a place where everyone is valued and respected. We communicate and collaborate to provide an academically-solid foundation that nurtures the whole child. We build character and embrace diversity while respecting every individual. We work to create an environment that positively impacts every child?s future. Our school fosters high standards and supports a lifelong love of learning for all students as they strive to meet their full potential. We are a ''School for Differentiated Instruction'' which means we work to create multiple pathways so that students of different abilities, interests or learning needs experience equally appropriate ways to absorb, use, develop and present concepts as part of the daily learning process. This approach allows students to take greater responsibility and ownership for their own learning, and provides opportunities for peer teaching and cooperative learning. Students have many enrichment opportunities, both within and outside the school day, which include VEX Robotics, Choir, 100 Mile Club, Student Council, and Enrichment. All students at Niwot Elementary take the General Core Curriculum classes that are outlined by the St. Vrain Valley Schools. In addition, Niwot Elementary also offers specialized programming for students identified as Gifted and Talented and/or Special Education. The Niwot teachers are qualified in evidenced based practices that include Ortin Gillingham and multi-sensory strategies. This allows the students to receive explicit literacy and multi sensory learning on a daily basis. Our students in grades preK-3rd grade receive an additional supplemental curriculum called Fundations daily and grades 4-5 receive morphology in the literacy block. All students in grades k-5 have 120 minutes for reading instruction and 60 minutes math instruction daily. Niwot also offers an Accelerated Fifth Grade Math class for those students identified as High Proficient and Advanced in local and state measures. There are 29 students involved in this.Through data discussions and discussions with our school Leadership Team, we have determined in which areas our school needs to focus our goals. In addition to using the data dialogue process to analyze and identify strategies that are working well and to identify areas in which we want to continue to improve; we review local data (such as iReady) continuously. Through this process we also identified trends across different data sources in order to determine challenges and root causes, resulting in the creation of our action steps. Our school leadership team is made up of administration, grade level teacher representatives and teacher representatives from otherncourse offerings (art, literacy and special education). Feedback was also obtained from parent representatives in the development of our plan and the review of goals.
