The mission of James Irwin Charter Middle School is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs. Located in Harrison District 2 with approximately 400 students--53% FRL population, 67% minority population, 13% Multilingual learners, 33% white students, single-gender classes, and a student population from several districts and surrounding areas. students. The UIP development team is comprised of the principal, assistant principal, teacher coach, Data Specialist, and teacher input who will work together to complete the UIP. We used CMAS and MAP data, along with JICMS student academic performance, for this UIP report. Overall, our rating for academic achievement is meeting the standard, and our rating for growth is approaching the standard. Our Multilingual Learner group and students with disabilities are the priority for improvement in both academic growth and achievement. Additionally, our focus will include all students in academic growth for ELA. In response to the needed growth, middle school staff and faculty have implemented multiple strategies--Acadience testing, reading in all classes, homework help club, after school individual and small group tutoring, and math and reading labs during the school day.
