Global Village Academy ? North (GVA-N) is an international school with language immersion instruction in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Russian. The mission of the school is for students to become fluent and literate in English and second world language, excel academically in core content subjects, and develop twenty first century skills, including cross-cultural understanding. order to cultivate understanding and develop the skills needed to live and work with others internationally. In our immersion program, students from kindergarten to fifth grade spend half of their day learning content in the immersion language. The core subjects of science and math are taught in the immersion classroom. Students receive instruction in English for the core content subjects of reading, writing, and social studies. Students in middle school are transitioned to a traditional schedule with an hour of language per day. Since opening in 2010, GVA-N has grown from 300+ students in 2010 to, at its peak, 973 students in 2016-2017. Enrollment for the 24-25 school year is 836. Global Village Academy North has a free and reduced lunch population of 45%. The percentage of ELL students in 24-25 is 48%. The percentage of minority students attending is 73% of students. GVA-N has been a Title I school since 2016. GVA-N has uses iReady Diagnostic Assessments (reading and math) and DIBELS (reading) for interim assessments given 3 times yearly. In 2019, GVA-N added the Acadience Math benchmark and progress monitoring program for all students. Student foreign language skills are also assessed annually using the STAMP, a test based on ACTFL standards. Global Village Academy North consistently received performance ratings on the School Performance Framework since opening in 2010 until the 2016-2017 school year, in which Global Village Academy received an overall rating of Improvement. Since then, the SPF rating moved back to Performance and has stayed there since. The stakeholders involved in the process of analyzing and creating the Unified Improvement Plan include staff members, parents, and board members. The school accountability committee meets once a month to analyze data and create plans for implementing major improvement strategies.
