About Community Leadership Academy (1882)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Community Leadership Academy

2025-2026

Community Leadership Academy (CLA), founded in 2005, serves approximately 300 students in grades Pre-K through 5 in Commerce City, Colorado. The first K?8 charter school in Adams 14 and now authorized by the Charter School Institute, CLA was established to expand educational opportunity in a community shaped by systemic inequities, environmental challenges, and limited access to high-quality early learning. Serving an underserved population?where 80% of students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunc… h, 97% identify as minority, and 70% are English Learners?CLA provides families with a stable, high-performing public school option that emphasizes both academic excellence and character development. After maintaining a Performance rating for over a decade?the only elementary school in Colorado with over 75% of students qualifying for Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) to do so?CLA now holds an Improvement plan designation. This reflects the lingering impact of unfinished learning among early cohorts, particularly the current 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, who respectively missed preschool or began kindergarten and first grade during remote learning in 2020?21. In response, CLA is implementing targeted recovery and acceleration strategies, including Eureka Math², daily literacy and math interventions, and 10-day progress monitoring cycles, ensuring that every student receives the focused support needed to regain momentum and thrive academically. Literacy remains stable, while math instruction and vocabulary development are key areas of renewed focus. Through its Core Knowledge foundation, intentional teaching, and wraparound supports such as free transportation, meals, and free Universal Preschool for 4 year olds, CLA continues to fulfill its mission of empowering students to overcome barriers, close opportunity gaps, and thrive as confident, capable learners prepared for success at Victory Preparatory Middle/High School and beyond.
