About Heritage Elementary School (3924)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Heritage Elementary School

2025-2026

Heritage Elementary is a Preschool through Fifth-grade school that was built on the location of the former Lincoln Elementary site. Lincoln School was closed due to decreasing enrollment and a dilapidated building. Students were distributed between two neighboring schools, Jefferson Elementary and Carlile Elementary. In 1992, a new school was built, which would later be referred to as Heritage Elementary. The name was chosen to cultivate and embrace all cultures. Heritage is located in South Cen… tral Pueblo with several major traffic arteries, Prairie Avenue, St. Clair, Orman, and Pueblo Boulevard outlining a portion of the attendance boundary lines. Heritage is a feeder school to Central High School. Most of the area is residential with a few small privately owned businesses, a variety of denominational churches, and a few parks, the largest being Pueblo City Park. Heritage Elementary is a neighborhood school that prides itself on a strong community feeling. Currently, there are 250 students enrolled in pre-school (two- to four-year-old programs) through fifth grade. We have a full-time teaching staff of 20 certified teachers. Our staff has recently hired 4 new teachers for our primary and intermediate grades. We also have a full-time guidance counselor, one full-time instructional coach, one full-time MTSS coordinator/interventionist, one half-time CLDE teacher, one half-time speech/language pathologist, and two preschool staff members. Additionally, we have three paraprofessionals and one educational assistant. During the 2019-2020 school year, Heritage was awarded a 5-year grant to support the Leader in Me program. For the 2024-2025 school year, Heritage will be finishing up the grant with the Leader in Me program. This program comes with extensive resources, such as a consultant, training, and materials to support our school community in becoming a Leader in Me school. Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model and ® process developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. To fully implement the Leader in Me program, the school is in the process of developing a Parent Lighthouse Team, which is formally known as the Parent/Teacher Organization. Quarterly parent nights are held to increase parent involvement. The parent nights are focused on academics and the Leader in Me philosophy to include the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. In May of 2025, Heritage was awarded Leader in Me Lighthouse status. The school has been working toward this achievement for the last five years. For the 2024-2025 Heritage has a partnership with 2 Partner Math Consultants and Franklin Covey. Heritage also had a previous 2-year partnership with Relay that ended in 2024.
