About Franklin School of Innovation (0756)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Franklin School of Innovation

2025-2026

Benjamin Franklin Elementary was a 50-year old neighborhood school in the Belmont area of Pueblo. Its name was changed to Franklin School of Innovation in August 2017. During the 2025-2026 school year, there are approximately 354 students enrolled at Franklin in grades K through 5 . During the previous school year (24-25) there were 349 students enrolled. The students are made up of approximately 73% minority and 87.9% Free or Reduced Lunch Eligible. Franklin has seen an increase in enrollment i… n the past 3 years. We moved into a brand new school in 2023. The current staff consists of 18 Kindergarten through 5 grade teachers, 1 Instructional Coache, 3 Academic Interventionist/Tutors, a teacher for PE, a teacher for Music, a Media Specialist/Innovation Teacher, a counselor, 3 special education teachers, a .5 ELL teacher, and a Dean of Students. One of our teachers is new to the school for the 2025-2026 school year. For the 2025-2026 school year, Franklin was under the same leadership with a 8th year Principal. The school completed its 7th year of support last year from the Early Literacy Grant which is in place to improve student achievement in literacy and provide supports to teachers to improve Tier I and Tier II instruction. The school has support in math from 2Partner which provides coaching and support for teachers and leaders by providing planning tools to boost student learning that is rooted in learning standards and driven by data. Tier I and Tier II instruction strategies are utilized during math intervention block. Much work has been done to correctly identify challenges faced by Franklin School of Innovation, and mitigate the root causes of each. The Building Leadership Team did much of the initial data analysis and the information was routinely shared with the entire teaching staff. It was determined that students of all disaggregated groups take courses of similar challenge throughout the school and there are no discrepancies of note that require further action. Challenges were prioritized through several processes to include the following: discussions and consensus with entire staff, additional analysis of local data, use of consultant information, and surveys. These processes led staff to determine that two performance challenges were a priority that encompassed all other performance challenges, which was consistent among grade levels, content areas, and sub-groups: Franklin School of Innovation students have remained consistently below state expectation in Achievement, Academic Growth Gaps, and district expectations in all content areas and all grade levels. For 2024-25 Franklin was rated Performance earning a 63.4 points out of a possible 100. Of these points, 44.3 were attributed in the area of Academic Growth and 19.1 in the area of Achievment which falls in the range of Approaching based on the cut points established by the State Board of Education. Additionally, the school held a stakeholder meeting, that included parents, where we were able to speak to the school SPF and how to maintain the Performance rating. They identified priority performance challenges and developed an action plan. The success of our current systems and the addition of numerous new staff has caused us to determine that staying the course with appropriate adjustments to the action plans driven by our Innovation initiative is the best way to address our current needs. The BLT will continue to analyze local data and how it supports goals formulated in the performance management system in order to be responsive to the needs of Franklin students and staff, and the School Accountability Committee which meets monthly, will continue to play a role in making sure that parents are partners in decision making.
