A MESSAGE FROM:

Hygiene Elementary School

2025-2026

Hygiene received the John Irwin School of Excellence Award in 2023, placing our school in the top 10% of the state. Hygiene recently received a prestigious IREADY reading award given to only 171 schools nationwide. To qualify for the award, at least 55% of a school?s students must reach the stretch growth benchmark in reading. Since 2017, Hygiene has been recognized as a Dyslexia school, specializing in explicit reading instruction since 2017. The school opened in 1972 and has an instructional f… ocus of STEAM. Hygiene Elementary is located in the northwest corner of St. Vrain Valley School District, serving students in grades PK-5. Hygiene has 287 students enrolled K-5 and an additional 26 in preschool. There are two rounds in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Students have many enrichment opportunities, both within and outside the school day, which include Spanish, VEX Robotics, Choir, 100 Mile Club, Student Council, and the Community Schools Program that offer a variety of enrichment opportunities throughout the school year. The free and reduced lunch percentage of Hygiene is at 23.6. The school's demographics consists of 23.2% Minority students and 14% IEP students. All students at Hygiene Elementary take the General Core Curriculum classes that are outlined by the St. Vrain Valley Schools. In addition, Hygiene Elementary also offers specialized programming for students identified as Gifted and Talented. The Hygiene teachers are qualified in evidenced based practices that include Orton Gillingham and multi-sensory strategies. This allows the students to receive explicit literacy and multi sensory learning on a daily basis. Our students in grades preK-3rd grade receive an additional supplemental curriculum called Fundations daily and grades 4-5 receive morphology in the literacy block. All students in grades k-5 have 120 minutes for reading instruction and 75 minutes math instruction daily. There are approximately 50 students that are involved in this program from grades 3-5 in reading extension. Hygiene also offers an Accelerated Fifth Grade Math class for those students identified as Advanced in local and state measures. There are approximately 8-10 students involved in this. Every year, Hygiene offers a year long capstone project where students are immersed in a school wide event traveling virtually to a different country. This unique school wide event is called Hawk Air. Students are actively engaged in a year long Design Thinking Process using critical thinking skills top help solve a problem for the country they are learning about year long. The culminating event consists of the school transforming into the location we are traveling with the strong steadfast partnerships of PTO, community members and businesses. Through data discussions and discussions with our school Leadership Team, we have determined in which areas our school needs to focus our goals. In addition to using the data dialogue process to analyze and identify strategies that are working well and to identify areas in which we want to continue to improve upon becomes a vital component in the process. In addition the entire Hygiene staff and all stakeholders are involved as we review the local data (such as iReady) continuously and state data.. Through this process we also identified trends across different data sources in order to determine challenges and root causes, resulting in the creation of our action steps. Our school leadership team is made up of administration, grade level teacher representatives and teacher representatives from other course offerings (art, literacy and special education). Feedback was also obtained from parent representatives on the Accountability Committee in the development of our plan and the review of goals
