As an intentionally small school CCS provides a balanced, integrated curriculum that encourages inquisitive, independent and self-motivated learners, incorporating strong academic skills woven into project-based learning opportunities. velopment, outdoor education, and the visual and performing arts. CCS strives to develop enduring relationships, to maintain a healthy social, emotional, and physical environment with high educational standards, and to focus on the four guiding points of our school?s compass: Social Justice: Teaching and modeling social responsibility, respect, tolerance, diversity, service, caring, compassion, integrity, equity and peace. Community: Building a strong sense of community through parental, student, teacher and community involvement and volunteerism. Responsibility: Embracing individuality, personal responsibility and accountability. Lifelong Learning: Pursuing a progressive, child-centered approach to creative, self-directed, lifelong learning. We are committed to developing enduring relationships while delivering highly effective standards-based, grade-level instruction along with individualized supports for those students demonstrating a need. Our school considers a body evidence that includes teacher and parent observations, ongoing informal, formative assessment data, classroom-based pre- and post-assessment data, DIBELS, NWEA Map Growth assessment data, CMAS assessment data, and our student portfolio process to identify and tailor individualized support. The Carbondale Community School Unified Improvement Plan has been developed in collaboration with school educators and the school accountability committee. As a small, highly collaborative school, our principal and educators looked closely at academic data from the 24-25 and previous school years to analyze trends and to determine improvement strategies. These trends and improvement strategies were evaluated by our educators and school accountability committee.
