Basalt Middle School is located in the mountain and river town of Basalt, Colorado. Our staff tirelessly dedicates itself to the BMS mission that every student will be prepared with the grit, mindset, and compassion to thrive in life?. ?An adherent of standards-­based education, Basalt Middle School has earned numerous awards as a result of exemplary academic growth. Our motto is to Work Hard, Be Kind, and Achieve, and we teach and assess character and non-content skills that include Executive S… kills, Perseverance, Enthusiasm, Compassion, and Teamwork. DEMOGRAPHICS: the demographics have changed over the past four years with the number of students identified as low income increasing and enrollment dropping. In 5?th through 8?th Grade, BMS is made up of 325 Students. 35% Anglo, 65% Latino CLUBS AND EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAMMING BMS offers outstanding activities for students including: A music program with school wide participation An arts program that fills our campus with rotating art exhibits A STEM space complete with 3D printers Spanish Language Arts offered to students grades 5-8 at the middle school as part of a K-12 continuum of bilingualism and biliteracy offerings to give the opportunity to earn a Seal of Biliteracy by high school graduation. Programming to ensure all students have an opportunity to succeed, including but not limited to a pre­-collegiate program, intervention at each grade level for reading and math, after­school homework help, and partnerships with the Buddy Program? BUILDING A LEARNING COMMUNITY BMS believes in the importance of building a learning community, and that means prioritizing communication between educators, parents, and students. Meeting in the advisory structure of Crew every day. Biweekly community newsletters are emailed out to parents and staff BMS provides a resource­ filled website: ? http://bms.rfsd.k12.co.us/ Over 95% of parents/caregivers attend beginning-of-the-year orientation and student conferences
