Basalt High School (BHS) is part of the Roaring Fork School District (RFSD) and is located on the Western Slope of Colorado and is a public school accredited by the State of Colorado with approximately 400 students, grades 9-12. The town of Basalt has a population of approximately 4,000 people with many working-class families that serve the mountain ski and hospitality community of Aspen. The median home price in Basalt has recently grown to approximately $1.6 million dollars while 47% of our st… udents? families qualify for Medicaid and our Educational Benefits program. The diversity of its population also includes racial and linguistic diversity, where 64% of its population is Latino, 34% is White, and 2% is other. Furthermore, 16% of the student body are English Language Learners who are predominantly Salvadoran immigrants, and 31% of the graduating class last year earned the Seal of Biliteracy.  Basalt High School is a dynamic learning community dedicated to preparing every student to thrive in their postsecondary pathways, whether that be college, career, or other opportunities. Every Junior and Senior takes College and Career Discovery courses that support them in setting career and postsecondary education plans in addition to the Concurrent Enrollment with Colorado Mountain College and 16 Advanced Placement (AP) courses that students are encouraged to take. The school has consistently earned recognition as part of the AP School Honor Roll and in 2024 earned Gold level recognition with 77% of the graduation class taking at least 1 AP class, 55% of the graduating class earning an AP score of 3+ on at least one exam, and 30% of the graduating class taking at least 5 AP classes throughout their high school career. In 2025, 47% of the student body took an AP exam, and 65.28% of the students who took AP exams earned passing scores.  With a strong commitment to equity and access, the school places particular focus on supporting emerging bilingual students through robust academic and language development programs, ensuring they are empowered to succeed in rigorous coursework and beyond. Basalt High School offers courses specific to newly immigrated students in science, math, and social studies in addition to English Language Development classes. Classroom teachers are supported with strategies for supporting Emerging Bilingual students through instructional coaching provided by the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education coach. These programs have resulted in 5 years of consistently high median growth percentiles on the ACCESS test, including an MGP of 60 in 2025.  To ensure a strong foundation for high school success, freshmen and sophomores participate in a tutorial class designed to support both academic and personal growth. This structured period functions as a study hall while also providing consistent academic and attendance check-ins from teachers. Counselors deliver social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons, and upperclassmen serve as peer tutors who mentor students, creating a supportive environment that helps underclassmen build positive habits, strengthen connections, and feel a sense of belonging.  Through rigorous academics, targeted supports, and inclusive opportunities, Basalt High School fosters a culture where all students are encouraged to achieve at high levels and are well prepared to thrive in their postsecondary goals.
