General Demographic  Weld Central Middle School is restructuring to serve only the eastern part of the district, impacting enrollment patterns. Starting in the fall of 2024, students from Lochbuie will no longer transition to Weld Central Middle School. Instead, Lochbuie Elementary will become a PreK-8 school, and students from the western side of the district will stay there through eighth grade. This transition began in 2024 with Lochbuie?s sixth graders remaining at their school. By 2025, both sixth and seventh graders will stay in Lochbuie, and by 2026, Lochbuie will retain all students through eighth grade. Weld Central has many rich traditions, with many of the students being the third generation to attend Weld Central Middle / High School. WCMS is the only middle school in District Re-3J. Student enrollment has fluctuated between 512 to 543 students from 2018-19 until the 2023 school year. Attendance rates at WCMS have ranged from 89.6% to 94.9% since 2017-18. During the same time period student mobility has ranged from 10.7% to 13.6%.  The percentage of students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch has increased since 2018-19 (36.7% FRL) to 62.8% in 2023-24. The percent of students who are identified as Multilingual Learners have remained somewhat stable between 2018-19 (25.6% ELL) and  2023-24 (26.9% ELL). The percentage of students who are identified as Minority has increased slightly each year between 2018-19 (50.4% minority) and  2023-24 (57.6 % minority). The percent of students who are on an IEP have remained somewhat stable between 2018-19 (12.1%IEP) and  2023-24 (12.5% IEP). Typical teacher retention has been 75-80% of teaching staff returning annually. During the Summer 2023, staff retention was 58.4%. Throughout the 2023-2024 school year there continued to be 6 unfilled teaching positions throughout most of the school year. Some of these vacant positions were filled by long-term substitutes and other shortages were accounted for by larger class sizes. During the Summer 2024, staff retention was 81.5%. The school typically makes good academic growth, and moderate academic achievement for ELA and Math.  The building staff, district staff and community at WCMS have collaboratively worked to analyze the data, identify root causes and determine action plans to address student needs.
