Columbine Middle School serves 6-8 graders in Montrose, CO. Our mission is to educate students, build positive relationships, and engage students in a sense of purpose while they are a student at CMS. As a district, MCSD is moving towards a Mastery Based Learning community which will provide priority standards and proficiency scales for the core academic content areas (RWC, math, science, social studies). We also provide students opportunities with band, choir, consumer and family studies, techn…
ology education (digital citizenship and Paxton Patterson Career Exploration focus), industrial arts, art, yearbook, physical education, and a handful of additional electives for 8th graders. Our school houses the Affective Needs program for MCSD middle school students as well as mild to moderate SPED students. Our school also provides GATE and CLD in a limited pull-out setting. We are leveraging the use Character Strong SEL curriculum in both 6th and 7th grade during Seminar class, which a scheduled period for all students to enhance their academic functioning. MCSD, in conjunction with our school safety teams, have developed an Engagement Center within each building to ensure students and families are getting attendance, behavior, and academics needs met within the school day.
