About Byers Junior-Senior High School (1176)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Byers Junior-Senior High School

2024-2025

The Byers Secondary Brick and Mortar is a small rural school with approximately 244 students 7th through 12th grade. We have one principal, two counselors, a half time special education teacher, one instructional coach and 18 full time classroom teachers. For the 2023 - 2024 and 2024 and 2025 school years Byers Junior Senior High School wants to focus on Classroom practices and procedures to increase our program efficacy to have more efficient classrooms. Professional Development has been provid… ed using the Harry Wong methodology and is utilized throughout the school year. Each teacher has a goal written as part of their Professional Growth Plan in RANDA that focuses on this methodology. The secondary school has utilized Impact teams to ensure staff involvement with our school goals. Impact team meetings and initiatives are coordinated with the East Central BOCES and will focus on data analysis, curriculum mapping and researched based classroom instruction. The Secondary has a monthly/weekly/daily meeting with the various impact team members. The Impact team is comprised of the principal, Instructional Coach and various classroom teachers. The secondary completed four years of a of a writing impact team before the Pandemic. This team integrated writing across all contents. As stated earlier we now want to continue our focus on Curriculum Mapping, classroom instruction and data analysis. We are now in the fourth year of curriculum mapping and at a point where the different content areas can coordinate with each other to fully utilize classroom topics across other content areas. Impact teams have been identifying priority standards and are in the process of creating scope and sequence for grades 7th through 12th. These will be aligned with state standards as well as vertically aligned with the district. There are two major goals: One is the goal of improving classroom instruction that is standards based. This goal also addresses continuity and mitigates the effects of teacher turnover.
