We are here to educate the whole child. We are here to build a PreK-through-post-secondary pathway for learners. Course Offerings Middle school students follow a nine-period day, which includes: 4 Academic Core Classes 2 Core Pathways 1 Exploring Pathway 1 Lunch/Wellness 1 Core+ Intervention/Enrichment English Language Arts and Math classes are 90 minutes long. Social Studies, Science, and Core Pathway courses are 45 minutes each. Academic Core Courses: Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies Each student takes four year-long academic core classes. These are aligned with Colorado Academic Standards and district expectations for proficiency. Our approach to Math and Language Arts is personalized, while Science and Social Studies offer a deep, concept-driven curriculum. Core Pathways (formerly known as Electives) Core Pathways offer hands-on, real-world learning experiences in areas such as the arts, trades, performance, and problem-solving. These classes are essential for helping students grow into well-rounded individuals. Each student takes 2 Core Pathway courses per semester. Offerings include: Band/Choir ? Required: One semester of either band or choir as a 6th grader, may take 1 or 2 semesters as a 7th/8th grader Physical Education/Health ? Required: Two semesters each year (unless in full year band/choir) Agriculture/Skills & Trades, Financial Literacy/Business, Art ? All 6th and 7th graders will take one semester of each during their two years, as 8th graders, they will get to request which Core Pathways they would like to explore more in depth. Core+ Intervention/Enrichment Craig Middle School prioritizes the Whole Child approach?ensuring every student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. Our team (teachers, counselors, support staff, and special service providers) uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to meet individual needs both academically and socially/emotionally. All CMS students will participate in targeted intervention and enrichment during Core+ time. Wellness At CMS we believe in researched-based practices that show educating students on health and wellness improves overall classroom performance. We ensure that EVERY student at CMS engages in a comprehensive wellness program that teaches healthy habits 25 minutes DAILY! Wellness activities include: social-emotional learning (2nd Step led by counselors) and soft skill development. We try to be outside 3 of the 4 days each week. Exploring Pathways Middle school is a time to explore, discover, and ignite a love for learning. Exploring Pathway courses allow students to uncover passions and interests. All Exploring and Core Pathway courses align with Colorado Career & Technical Education (CTE) standards to build lifelong success. Mixed-grade groups (6th?8th) 6-week, Pass/Fail courses Held during 9th period each day (30 minutes) Starting in 2025?26, each student will take 1 course per year in the five identified career clusters, in addition to a College and Career Readiness course taught by our school counselors.
