Burlington High School enrolled 218 students, which are guided by 17 teaching staff members, 2 paraprofessionals, 1 counselor, 1 athletic/activities director and 1 principal. Of those 218 students, 61% are considered Free and Reduced Lunches, 55% are Minority, 20% are English Language Learners, 18% are on an IEP, and 11% are identified as Gifted and Talented. The vast majority of students are involved in some form of extracurricular activity, including football, softball, cheerleading, boys and …
girls golf, boys and girls basketball, boys wrestling, girls wrestling, track, baseball, FFA, FBLA, HOSA, Drama Club, Art Club, National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, and class activities. We are a diverse, rural, agricultural-based community. BHS involves administration and teachers in the creation of the UIP. The District Accountability Committee, which includes staff, parents and community stakeholders also provide input. We thoroughly review and analyze state level data (PSAT/SAT, CMAS, and ACCESS) as well as local data measures (NWEA and classroom assessments). Through our thought partnership with the University of Virginia, we analyzed trends over time, identified our problem of practice, desired outcomes, and root causes. We then set goals/action steps for improvement.  On the 2025 Performance Framework, BHS was given the Improvement Plan type for the third year in a row. This was an accumulation of continuous improvement from the 2022 Performance Framework when we were given the Priority Improvement Plan type.
