About Silverthorne Elementary School (8376)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Silverthorne Elementary School

2024-2025

Silverthorne Elementary serves pK-5th grade and is a K-5 Dual Language school with an Outdoor Education Program. Languages include Spanish and English. Students spend 50% of their day in English and 50% in Spanish. Our Outdoor Education allows our students to experience everything Summit County has to offer including biking, hiking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating. We partner with businesses in the community that support our programs.    Our mission statement is: our school… is a global community where everyone belongs, everyone works hard and everyone succeeds! We are stronger together...we are..Bear Strong! ¡Somos Osos Fuertes! In Spanish it is: ¡Nuestra escuela es una comunidad global donde todo el mundo tiene su lugar, se trabaja duro y todo el mundo tiene éxito! ¡Juntos somos más fuertes, somos.... Osos fuertes! It aligns with the district mission/vision that states Summit School District prepares caring, courageous community-minded people who create a better world. SSD creates a safe learning community in which each and every person belongs, grows and thrives. At Silverthorne we want to give each student opportunities to grow and thrive. Over the last five years our improvement approach included work with McREL, a nonpartisan education research, development, and service organization that helps schools, districts, and education agencies improve outcomes. They completed a root cause analysis and provided leadership around building PLCs, focusing on the Colorado Academic Standards, and supporting leadership development. This work was impacted by COVID, especially in the Spring of 2020, but we were able to complete our goals. In Spring of 2022, Silverthorne Elementary was accepted into the transformation network with CDE. We completed our diagnostic review/visit with the state in May of 2022 and the major improvement strategies were developed. We have met with our CDE partner in June and July to build our progress monitoring tool to be prepared for the new school year. During the 22/23 school year we met monthly with our partner at CDE. We created a UIP that was a working document by implementing the progress monitoring tool recommended by the state. This allowed us to be looking at our work on an continual basis-implementing, reflecting and adjusting. We have continued this work in the 23/24 school year and have been given a new CDE partner for the 24/25 school year. During our planning of the UIP, we have worked with a variety of stakeholders in our work. There has been communication to all stakeholders of our status (letter to families and community) as priority improvement. We met with our school accountability committee quarterly to share the process, the data and to ask for feedback. Our building leadership team and staff were part of the goal setting process. The PM tool was shared at multiple PLCs to review with staff the process and next steps. A wrap up of goals was presented to our SAC in May to end the school year. Silverthorne Elementary has had an increase in enrollment in the last 5 years. This is very exciting and we hope this upward trajectory continues in the future. There will be more affordable housing that will be complete in the next year that is in Silverthorne?s boundaries.  Silverthorne Elementary?s principal of 5 years decided to accept the Director of Student Services position at the District level in August 2024. The assistant principal took over as interim principal.
