About Thomson Primary School (8832)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Thomson Primary School

2025-2026

Thomson Priamry School has approximately 450 PK-2nd grade level students. We are 55% Hispanic/Latino, 42% white, 2% two or more races, and 1% other ethnicities. Approximately 60% of our students qualify for Free and Reduced meals. 12.5 percent of students are on IEPs, 15% of students recieve ELL services and 1.3% are migrant students. We are a rural school in Northeastern Colorado. We have a staff of over 100 including our custodial, cafeteria, and child care teachers. We are family and communit… y oriented. We have 5 or 6 classrooms at each grade level with class numbers from 18-22. We have a reading interventionist at each grade level, kindergarten to second grade. Our students participate in music, PE, art, technology, and library weekly. We have experienced a change in leadership and as of March 2023, Thomson has had a new principal and assistant principal. Our administration's process for developing the UIP follows: We gathered all data available for Thomson Primary, which included the READ ACT data, DIBELS Data and NWEA reports. Once we had identified our top performance challenges, VEC facilitated a root cause analysis process for each challenge. This included a fish bone activity to allow for everyone to add what they think(based on data) are the causes for the performance challenges. Then we narrowed the causes down by eliminating anything that was student behavior and that was not in our control. From there, we looked at the remaining causes to identify the root cause. We have presented to TPO (Thomson Parent Organization), ILT and BLT for information about Thomson data and included their perspective in building the UIP. The ILT team is involved and a major influence in our UIP strategy. Once we had our potential root causes, we developed our Major Improvement Strategies for each root cause and developed our strategic plan for the implementation of said strategies. We have continuously implemented those strategies and expect to see results in our near future.
