About Merit Academy (8257)

A MESSAGE FROM:

Merit Academy

2025-2026

Merit Academy is currently in our 5th year of operation. We are proud of our community support, our academic achievement and student population growth. Last year, school year 24-25, we had a total of 503 students in our full-time and homeschool/ Aerolab programs. This year, we have 614 students. 548 in our full-time program, 66 in our homeschool program and of that number, 12 are in our Aerolab program. We have added over 100 students to our population! We are proud to have our current location … in the beautiful town of Woodland Park. Our community had many reasons to want a school of choice and now, students and parents can benefit from our classical curriculum. From reading to art, math to woodworking, writing to band, Merit is striving to have many options for our amazing students. One of the primary reasons we have so many course offerings and extra curricular activities is the amazing staff at Merit. From all walks of life, they have been brought together to help raise community-minded adults. This year,  Merit Academy was able to invest in laboratory equipment and capabilities to comply with The College Board's requirements. So we can say with all confidence that we have university-level science laboratories. Students with special needs are receiving outstanding support this year as well. In our School of Grammar, we have added another full-time reading interventionist and increased the hours of our fantastic Math and Movement programming to meet with more students struggling with math. In addition, we added a math interventionist for our School of Logic students and are keeping those classes exceptionally small, focused and fluid so students are able to fill gaps in learning and move forward seamlessly. Our MTSS team meets with every team at least one time a month and students across the grade levels are placed in interventions OR enrichments dependent upon their needs. We have 2 full-time Special Education providers and 2 full-time Special Education Support Staff who ensure that every student on an IEP is receiving the accommodations, support and minutes they need to achieve their goals. We have a team of 3 people that manage and support our Gifted and Talented community. Although they are part-time, they are effective in moving students where they need to be for academic challenge and supporting teachers who are differentiating for their academic success. Our Gifted and Talented team works with supervision from Ute Pass BOCES to ensure we are following all the state guidelines and best practices for this population. We are proud to have an active Student Government for our School of Rhetoric and School of Logic. Our School of Logic has a group of 8 wonderful students this year! As this is new to Merit Academy, they developed their mission statement: ? We are looking forward to working together to do great things for the SOL students, to help serve Merit Academy as a whole, to instill pride in our Merit Academy Family, and to represent Merit Academy well in our larger Woodland Park community!? What a way to support our amazing school. Merit Academy is adding more sport opportunities each year. This year we are offering basketball, track, cross country, and volleyball. We have numerous clubs from Chess and Rubik Cube club to drama to a highly competitive Science Olympiad, we are striving to offer students what they love. Students want to be here at Merit Academy. Another reason we are seeing great accomplishments is the support of our fantastic parents. We have very active parents that want to be involved in their child(ren's) education. From our Board to SAC to classroom volunteers, our parents are an integral part of our success. The SAC uses a working document to share with our stakeholders. We utilize a working document and meetings to ensure that stakeholders are heard with concerns and celebrations. We are proud that our SAC is composed of parents, teachers, administrators and community members.
