Escalante is a medium-sized middle school in southwest Colorado. Its campus sits adjacent to the beautiful Animas River, offering our students and staff opportunities to access natural spaces as an extension of the learning environment. Escalante is a proud EL school and is committed to the EL vision of public education as "a place where students of all backgrounds and identities have the power to exceed the highest standards ? as scholars and as community members." s from EL which is "We are crew, not passengers." EMS strives to ensure our students are active learners and conscientious members of the school community. We start the day with Crew where students meet with a small group of classmates to check in each morning, focus their learning, and engage in initiatives focused on collaboration, community-building, and reflection. At Escalante, we are passionate believers in every student - regardless of their background or ability - experiencing academic success in a safe, welcoming learning environment. We offer numerous exploratory options to students from foreign languages to robotics to woodworking to fine arts to music. Through this balance of academics and activities, we hope to inspire students to realize their Ikigai, which is a future self filled with purpose, passion, and success. In this spirit, we recommit ourselves daily to live out our school's mission to "Work Hard / Be Kind."
